Blue Opalite Tumbled Stone
Blue Opalite Tumbled Stone
Blue Opalite is composed of a silica-based glass (primarily silicon dioxide, SiO₂) combined with additives such as metal oxides and fluorides. These additives are introduced during melting to alter the way light passes through the glass, giving opalite its characteristic milky translucence and blue appearance. The glass is formed by melting the raw materials at high temperatures and then cooling them in a controlled manner to achieve a uniform internal structure.
Blue Opalite has a hardness of around 5.5 to 6 on the Mohs scale, a vitreous lustre, no cleavage, and a conchoidal fracture typical of glass. Because it is homogeneous and free of natural inclusions, it cuts and polishes very evenly.
