Amethyst Raw Specimen
-
Amethyst is a purple variety of quartz composed of silicon dioxide (SiO₂).
-
It forms when quartz crystallises from silica-rich fluids, most commonly in hydrothermal veins and in cavities within volcanic rocks such as basalt.
-
Like all quartz, amethyst has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale.
-
The purple colour is caused by trace amounts of iron within the quartz crystal structure, modified by natural irradiation from surrounding rocks.
-
Most of our Amethyst is sourced directly from Brazil.
Price is for one raw specimen that will be intuitively chosen for you from our collection. Sizes and shapes will vary a little due to their natural formation.
