TRANSPARENCY: Opaque to translucent
LUSTRE: Waxy to greasy, taking a soft glow when polished
COLOURS: Swirls of green and lilac-purple to pink
LOCATIONS FOUND: Tasmania (Australia), South Africa, Canada
FORMATION: Forms in magnesium-rich rock where chromium-bearing minerals are altered by fluids, creating purple stichtite within green serpentine

- The purple colour comes from chromium, an element more often associated with green gemstones such as emerald.
- Stichtite was first described in Tasmania in 1910 and named after Robert Sticht, a manager of the Mount Lyell Mining Company.
