COMPOSITION: Fynchenite (Phoenix Stone), a combination of Chrysocolla (hydrated copper silicate), Malachite (copper carbonate) and Turquoise (hydrated copper aluminium phosphate), with Lapis Lazuli (a rock made mainly of Lazurite, with Calcite and Pyrite)
MOHS HARDNESS: Approximately 2 to 6, varying by specimen and which minerals dominate
TRANSPARENCY: Opaque
LUSTRE: Waxy to silky to dull, taking a smooth polish
COLOURS: Swirls of blue, teal and green, with deep royal blue lapis and golden pyrite flecks
LOCATIONS FOUND: Lapis Lazuli: Afghanistan, Chile. Fynchenite: Various Locations
FORMATION: The Fynchenite minerals form where copper deposits weather and oxidise near the surface, while Lapis Lazuli forms when limestone is altered by heat and pressure
