COMPOSITION: Fine-grained druzy Quartz (Silicon Dioxide) with Calcite (Calcium Carbonate) crystals

MOHS HARDNESS: Quartz 7, Calcite 3

TRANSPARENCY: Druzy is translucent to opaque. Calcite is transparent to translucent.

LUSTRE: Vitreous (glassy) to sparkling druzy, with calcite vitreous to slightly pearly

COLOURS: Dark grey to silvery grey druzy with clear calcite crystals

UV REACTION: Calcite crystals fluoresce orange under UV light

FORMATION: Forms in cavities where mineral-rich fluids deposit a fine layer of quartz crystals, followed by calcite crystals growing from calcium-rich fluids
