SEPTARIAN
The Stone of Patience and Grounding
✦ GEMSTONE INFORMATION ✦
COMPOSITION: A rock concretion made of Calcite and Aragonite (calcium carbonate) veins within a brown limestone or clay-rich matrix. It can also contain traces of other minerals.
MOHS HARDNESS: Approximately 3 to 4, varying with the matrix and crystal veins
TRANSPARENCY: Opaque matrix with translucent to transparent calcite crystals
LUSTRE: Waxy to dull matrix, vitreous (glassy) crystals
COLOURS: Brown, grey and tan matrix with yellow, gold or white calcite veins
LOCATIONS FOUND: Madagascar, USA (Utah), New Zealand.
FORMATION: Forms when mud and sediment gather around a nucleus such as a shell and harden into a nodule. As the nodule dries, it cracks inside. Over time, mineral-rich water fills the cracks with calcite crystals.
