Appearance: Deep royal blue, often with golden flecks of pyrite and white streaks of calcite

Composition: Primarily lazurite (a sodium calcium aluminium silicate with sulphur), with inclusions of pyrite and calcite.

Hardness: 5–5.5 on the Mohs scale
