• Amethyst is a purple variety of quartz composed of silicon dioxide (SiO₂).

• It forms when quartz crystallises from silica-rich fluids, most commonly in hydrothermal veins and in cavities within volcanic rocks such as basalt.
  

• Like all quartz, amethyst has a hardness of 7 on the Mohs scale.

• The purple colour is caused by trace amounts of iron within the quartz crystal structure, modified by natural irradiation from surrounding rocks.
  

• Most of our Amethyst is sourced directly from Brazil.
