Elite/Noble Shungite is very rare and accounts for only about 1% of all Shungite that is mined. It contains the highest concentration of Fullerenes (powerful anti-oxidants) and contains approximately 98% carbon.

Shungite is composed primarily of elemental carbon, in the case of Elite Shungite this is around 98% carbon, with the remaining material made up of silicates, aluminosilicates, quartz, and small amounts of metal oxides. Shungite formed through the metamorphism of very ancient organic-rich sediments and is commonly dated to around 2 billion years old, making it one of the oldest known carbon-bearing materials on Earth.

It is generally opaque, relatively soft with a Mohs hardness of about 3.5 to 4. Because of its high carbon content, Shungite is electrically conductive and may leave a black residue when handled or worked. Commercially significant deposits are almost entirely confined to the Karelia region of north-western Russia.
